YOUNGSTERS at a County Durham primary school are enjoying their new milk bar.
Vane Road Primary School in Newton Aycliffe, near Darlington, is one of ten throughout the county taking delivery of a milk bar from farmer-owned dairy group First Milk and school caterer Scolarest.
Other schools taking part are in Bishop Auckland, Peterlee, Wolsingham, Easington Colliery and Consett.
Decorated in bright colours, the Vane Road milk bar was the first to be opened in County Durham and is proving popular with pupils at lunchtime.
It sells ice-cold milk in trendy cups from a chilled dispenser, plus organic apple juice.
Also available are healthy snacks including yoghurt, fruit and sandwiches.
Vane Road Primary School headteacher Sue Collier said: "Our children are very enthusiastic about the milk bar and it is proving to be very popular. The choice is excellent and provides a very substantial lunch."
Scolarest senior operations manager Terry Tyson added: "We're keen to encourage pupils to follow a healthy diet by making it fun for them, and we're very pleased that the milk bars are proving so successful.
"Milk is one of the best sources of calcium to help children build strong bones.
"Scolarest would like to introduce more milk bars in County Durham and we are currently talking to a number of other schools."
