A PHONE box which is being frequented by drug users is in the process of being removed.
Councillor Cyndi Hughes has been campaigning on behalf of residents who want to see the phone box in Southend Avenue, Darlington removed.
They say drug users were using the phone box to secure drugs deals and as a place to take drugs, as syringes had been found in the area.
But now Coun Hughes reports that the electricity to the box has been switched off and the phone removed.
She is now pressing BT to set a date for the removal of the phone kiosk, to prevent it being used as a venue for drug taking.
The phone box in question was among a small number in the town which BT was proposing to remove before residents raised the issue of drugs.
