YOUNGSTERS will perform their own production next week.
Pupils from Belmont Comprehensive School, in Durham, and partner primary schools have put together Beautiful Mountain after working with Jack Drum Arts, of Derwentside.
The performance, in Durham's Gala Theatre, uses drama, dance, music and digital film.
Jane Cooper, curriculum team manager for performing arts at the comprehensive, said: "It is good that young people have been given the chance to perform in a professional theatre and have helped create an original piece."
Pupils from years nine and ten working with dramatist Julie Ward have taken on the main scripted parts. The work also features four short films made by year eight pupils, who worked with filmmaker Helen Ward.
Year two pupils from Belmont Infant School open and close the show with a song, and year five pupils from Belmont Junior, West Rainton Primary and Ludworth Primary will also perform songs, written with help from Paddy Burton.
Beautiful Mountain will be performed at the Gala Theatre on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, at 7pm. Tickets are £3 and are available from the box office on 0191-332 4041.
