Spennymoor Leisure Centre will be closing its indoor sports hall during a £60,000 refurbishment.
The hall is having its floor resurfaced and will be closed from Monday, June 28, to Saturday, August 21.
The new surface consists of an Area Elastic Sprung Floor, which has an impact energy-absorbing support system.
The floor is acknowledged as a critical element in providing a comfortable and safe place in which to play sport.
It is designed to help reduce physical injury as a result of the impact on joints.
A spokesman for Sedgefield Borough Council said: "This is a £60,000 investment, funded entirely by the council, and we are confident that once the resurfacing is completed, clients will notice a marked improvement in their sporting ability.
"We apologise for any inconvenience, and would like to offer those who have a block booking in the sports hall a free indoor five-a-side ball when they renew.
"This also applies to anyone who starts a new block booking when the hall reopens."
