Runaway Jury (12, Twentieth Century Fox Entertainment, DVD £15.99/VHS £12.99). Stars: John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, Rachel Weisz.
LIKE the John Grisham book on which it is based, Runaway Jury is guilty of predictable plotting, lapses in logic and an implausible ending. But it's a slick and engrossing court drama using the backdrop of an office block massacre. Notoriously incorruptible Wendall Rohr (Hoffman) is hired to prosecute a firearms company and Machiavellian jury consultant Rankin Fitch (Hackman) acts for the defence. Then juror Nick Easter (Cusack), attempts to hijack the trial for his own financial gain, aided by his girlfriend Marlee (Weisz).
DVD Extras: Director commentary, deleted scenes, The Making Of Runaway Jury, Exploring The Scene, Off The Cuff featurette, The Ensemble, Shadow And Light featurette, A Vision Of New Orleans, Rhythm - The Craft Of Editing
