MIKE Blunt of Roecliffe, near Boroughbridge, has been named a regional winner in the national farm sprayer operator of the year competition 2004.
He is responsible for spraying 1,700 acres of arable crops, including cereals, oilseed rape, sugar beet and spring beans at Roecliffe Farms.
Mr Blunt attends regular training required by the National Register of Sprayer Operators, of which he is a member.
As a regional finalist he went through two rigorous rounds before a searching final interview by a panel of industry experts.
Tom Robinson, Syngenta application specialist and competition organiser, said: "Even with today's highly sophisticated spraying equipment it is still down to the skills of the operator to ensure the best results."
Mr Blunt will now go to the national final at the International Sprays and Sprayers Event, held as part of Cereals 2004, at Leadenham, Lincolnshire, on Wednesday and Thursday.
