COUNCIL bosses have been given a ringing endorsement of their efforts to crack down on litter louts.
Darlington Borough Council leader John Williams was presented with a certificate from environmental charity Encams, in recognition of an action plan the two bodies have drawn up for the coming year.
The certificate follows the council scooping Encams' New Programme of the Year award in April.
The authority's anti-litter campaign, backed by The Northern Echo, started in November 2002.
Since its launch, there have been educational programmes in schools, businesses signing up to a Tidy Trader charter and more than 600 people fined for litter offences.
