ONE of the biggest church parishes in the county has a new rector.
The appointment of The Reverend Beryl Bowes to the united benefice of Amotherby, Barton-le-Street, Appleton-le-Street, Slingsby, Hovingham, Coneysthorpe and Scackleton coincides with the tenth anniversary of The Ordination of Women.
The anniversary is to be marked by a celebration service in York Minster this weekend.
Mrs Bowes trained as a nurse and is one of about 40 women ordained in the York Diocese.
She was ordained a deacon 13 years ago.
Mrs Bowes, who is shortly to move into The Vicarage at Amotherby, will have the care of seven churches in the four parishes for which she is responsible.
