TWO weeks of special events at a primary school will see youngsters learning about cultures from around the world.
One of the first events at Kirkby and Great Broughton Church of England Primary School, near Stokesley, takes place on Monday, when storyteller Roop Singh will visit the school to talk about Indian culture and Sikh traditions.
Afro-Caribbean dancers, storytellers, artists from various cultures and local representatives will work with the children and the community throughout the fortnight.
The events have been paid for through a fund managed by North Yorkshire County Council.
The council received a grant from the Yorkshire and Humber Global Schools Association because of the equality and diversity priority in its education development plan.
Emily Warren, who will be leading the project with her year four class, said: "The project will allow the children to discover that the world is a diverse place.
"Children will be gaining awareness of cultural differences through e-mailing their peers in an inner city school in Kenya and community groups will work with year four children who will educate the rest of the school through themed assemblies.
"We are all looking forward to an exciting time."
