A team which offers people with mental health problems an alternative to hospital admission has reached the national final of the Health and Social Care Awards.
The team, from Earlston House, Darlington, received the regional mental health award for its immediate support and respite service and informal "day-guests" facility.
Earlston House, which is run by County Durham and Darlington Priority Services NHS Trust, provides a homely and relaxing environment for people experiencing problems with mental health.
The team provides a flexible service which can often prevent the need for people to go into hospital.
Visitors can stay for up to three weeks, or just long enough to have a hot meal and a chat. This may be because they are experiencing a crisis and need support or because their carer needs to access short-term respite care.
