A WILDLIFE site between steelworks and a main road has had a facelift thanks to environment groups.
Staff from the Environment Agency and Tees Valley Wildlife Trust helped to improve the wetland site at Coatham Marsh Nature Reserve, near Redcar. The team helped to build a visitors' boardwalk and planted reeds as part of their contribution to World Environment Day last Saturday.
The site is rich in bird life and wild flowers and is an excellent example of how wildlife can thrive in an industrial environment.
Amanda Trevithick, of the agency, said: "This site is of local importance, and enhancement of the nature reserve will help to attract birds such as reed bunting and sedge warbler.
"Staff at the Environment Agency felt this was an ideal opportunity to contribute towards the success of this Teesside haven."
