EPSOM, Doncaster - they all come alike for the consistent northerner Uhoomagoo.
On Oaks day at the Surrey track, Kevin Ryan's charge won the Vodafone Mile despite his five pounds penalty for his win the Saturday before on the Town Moor.
Neil Callan had the ride and had warmed up for the big day by winning for the Hambleton handler the day before on Cardinal Venture at Haydock. Uhoomagoo may now go to Royal Ascot next week for the Royal Hunt Cup, and his odds are dropping - so back him early.
Our northern winner on Derby day at Epsom was in the Vodafone Dash - but perhaps not the one we expected. David Nicholls was mob-handed (hard to choose which beforehand), but Robert Winston rode "a peach of a ride" to score on Caribbean Coral for John Quinn - the quotes are his.
Swooping late and fast, Winston gave the trainer his first Epsom win on the line. Also finishing at a furious speed, Nicholls' Plateau was a short-head second under Michael Hills. Both these are in the Wokingham on the last day of the Royal meeting, along with another Nicholls clutch of sprinters.
He did not hit the bullseye this week until Monday evening at Pontefract, when his wife Alex Greaves partnered Albashoosh to win the six-furlong sprint.
John Wainwright sent out a renewed Tommy Smith to land the five-furlong event, Darren Williams in the plate. This may run at York today, but the trainer also has Catch The Cat there - a one-two might be likely.
Williams partnered one winner last Thursday for his boss Karl Burke, who took a double thanks to Adrian Nicholls, while Keith Dalgleish gave him an all-weather winner on Oaks day. Williams also partnered a Micky Hammond winner at Redcar on Tuesday, while Fergal Lynch was in the plate for George Moore's Haydock winner, Futoo.
David Barron said his string had not been well, with ringworm in the yard, but he landed an apprentice-ridden treble on Oaks day, one from Philip Makin at Thirsk, plus two at Wolverhampton thanks to Laura-Jayne Crawford, her second success, and Paul Mulrennan. At Doncaster on Derby day, Makin was again in winning mode on Trance. Barron also landed the opener at Redcar on Tuesday, Maureen's Lough ridden by Paul Fessey.
Tim Easterby sent out a good maiden auction winner at Doncaster, David Allan giving Space Shuttle a positive ride. Running in the colours of Jennifer Pallister and Jonathan Gill, this promising colt was bred by Sally Hall.
There's nothing the Mary Reveley Racing Club members like better than a winner at Redcar, their local course, and Tony Culhane made sure they got their wishes partnering Spitting Image there on Tuesday.
Richard Fahey landed the last with Richtee and showed his team is again in good order when Oldenway won at Beverley. Fahey now heads to Royal Ascot with last week's winner, Bolton Hall, a runner in the Coventry Stakes.
One of the most interesting horses introduced this week was at Hamilton on Wednesday evening when Graham and Andrea Wylie, stratospheric stars on the jumps scene during the year, saw their first two-year-old romp home in the maiden stakes. Abraxas Antelope, under Robert Winston and trained by Howard Johnson, trounced a strong field, including two Mark Johnston youngsters.
