THURSDAY'S elections in Harrogate were a victory for the status quo, with neither the Conservatives or Liberal Democrats making gains.

Elections took place in the borough council's 16 wards, with the Tories winning 13 seats and the Lib Dems winning three. The Tories made a gain in Lower Nidderdale, where Lib Dem Thomas Watson was replaced by Conservative Elwyn Anthony Hinchcliffe, but this was cancelled out by a Lib Dem gain in Boroughbridge, where Peter Phillips replaced Brian Lumsden.

The turnout was just over 55 per cent.
