HOUSEHOLDERS are being urged to be extra vigilant following a spate of burglaries.
Police have issued a warning following burglaries in Shildon, over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Twelve house, garage and shed burglaries were reported.
PC Caroline Shields said warmer weather had led to people leaving windows and, in some cases, doors open making their properties an easy target.
She said: "Some of the break-ins have taken place during the day, others at night. People should be alert and ensure their properties are safe from thieves when they are away and at home.
"Sheds and outhouses should also be protected with suitable security devices.''
Anyone with any information can call PC Shields on (01325) 742572 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
