FIVE girls have received an award for their outstanding contribution to their school and local community.
All five attend Grangefield School, Stockton, and are members of the Clickin Chicks team, who act as mentors for a group of senior citizens taking a computer course at the school.
They are Rebecca North-rop and Emma Darcy, of year seven, and Sarah Crutwell, Sheri Thomas and Rachel Milburn, of year eight.
The computer course lasts ten weeks and each week the Clickin Chicks give up their time to stay behind after school to work with the group. In recognition of their efforts, they have been awarded the school's Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award.
Sandra Harper, who organised the project, said: "I am thrilled the girls have received this award. It is nice to see them get some recognition for their efforts.
"As the project has been so successful, the name Clickin Chicks is becoming recognised within the community.
"People have heard about us and are asking when the next course will be running. If our popularity continues we may decide to run it twice a year."
