NEARLY 70,000 people visited a museum during a nine-day celebration of the railway industry.
The National Railway Museum (NRM), in York, held Railfest between May 29 and June 6 to mark the 200th anniversary of rail travel.
It began with the arrival of the Flying Scotsman, which was joined by VIPs, including Virgin chairman Sir Richard Branson and the chairman of regional development agency Yorkshire Forward, Terry Hodgkinson.
Andrew Scott, head of the NRM, said: "The nine days of Railfest will stay in my memory as one of the most remarkable periods in the museum's history.
"I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the festival such a huge success, which was the result of a partnership of museum staff and a vast number of individuals from the railway industry and the railway heritage world."
