VISIONS of King Kong inspired Mark Cant to abseil 90ft to raise money for charity.
He donned a monkey suit to abseil down the tower at St Edmund's Church, Sedgefield, on Saturday, to raise money for the church and the school attended by his son Matthew.
Mr Cant was among 28 volunteers from the Friends of Hardwick Road Primary School and The Friends of St Edmund's Church to rise to the challenge.
He said: "It was a bit hot and I couldn't see very well, but it was a few leaps and bounds for charity. That is the best way to describe it.
"I had this idea of King Kong at the top of the tower instead it was more like small Kong."
The fundraising event, which saw people of all ages taking up the challenge, raised more than £2,500, which will be split equally between the church and the school.
