A SUMMER party took place yesterday to mark the end of a year-long effort to raise aspirations in an area trying to overcome industrial decline.
A free Party in the Park was held in Consett, to herald the efforts of the people involved with the We're Celebrating Your Success in Derwentside initiative.
It attempted to raise hopes and aspirations of the people of north-west Durham in education, business and the arts.
Backed by Derwentside College, JobCentre Plus, the local strategic partnership and the business community of Derwentside, it resulted in 26 people of all ages receiving achievement awards.
These included people who returned to education or who overcame illness to support local voluntary organisations.
Yesterday's event, at Blackhill and Consett Park, featured music, entertainment and other activities to bring the project to a close.
Young pop acts and Consett Junior Brass Band performed in the park's recently-restored Victorian bandstand.
