A PLEA has gone out for more people to become involved in running Pickering's Memorial Hall.
One of the best known community centres in North Yorkshire, the building underwent a £750,000 restoration a few years ago.
Councillor Mal Danks, who represents the town council on the board of trustees, is urging people to turn up for the hall's annual meeting on Thursday, June 24, at 7pm.
The hall's new manager, Sue McGinnis, said: "The people of Pickering have the opportunity to ensure that we have a dynamic and thriving Memorial Hall, able to offer a valuable leisure and business facility for all age and interest groups.
"The hall belongs to the people of Pickering and it is on them that it depends if it is to continue to play a central role in the life of the town.
"Our message to the people of Pickering is that your Memorial Hall needs you."
Anyone who is able to volunteer can telephone Coun Danks on (01751) 658894.
A review of the hall's systems and procedures is under way to ensure it meets current legislation and offers a service to users.
