MEN'S health issues will be the subject of a number of roadshows next week.
Derwentside and Durham and Chester-le-Street primary care trusts are holding four roadshows to raise awareness of cancer in men.
Health workers will be highlighting the importance of early checks for prostate and testicular cancer.
Liz Moran, health promotions specialist, said: "Many men are reluctant to visit their doctors for routine check-ups for a variety of reasons.
"By promoting a healthier lifestyle through diet, exercise and general healthier living, we hope to improve the lives of many men."
Staff will be encouraging smokers to give up and encouraging people to eat five portions of fresh fruit and vegetables a day.
Shaun Beattie, health promotions specialist, said: "Recognising and preventing men's health problems is not just a man's issue, because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters and sisters.
"This week gives the opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for any disease or injuries."
The tour begins today from 5.30pm until 9pm, in the Riverside sports centre, Chester-le-Street.
Health staff visit Belle Vue Leisure Centre, Consett, from 5pm until 9.30pm tomorrow and the Louisa Centre, in Stanley, on Wednesday at the same time.
On Thursday, the tour ends with a visit to Deerness Leisure Centre, in Ushaw Moor, near Durham.
