A DROP-IN centre to help victims of domestic violence is celebrating its success.
Victim Support holds drop-in sessions at the Asda store in Whinbush Way, Darlington, on the last Thursday of the month, when victims of domestic violence or other crimes can get advice.
Organisers chose the venue with victims of domestic violence in mind, so they can get help without arousing suspicion in their partners.
Each time a session is held, about four people approach the volunteers with concerns about domestic violence and up to ten others speak to them about other aspects of crime.
Angie Firth, from Victim Support, said: "It seems to have been a brilliant success. To have people walk through the doors specifically to see us about these issues, means that hopefully we are making a difference.
"Whether it is a victim of domestic violence or their friend or neighbour who is concerned about them, they are coming to see us for advice and support, but we are also here for other victims of crime as well."
The scheme was launched in October by Darlington MP Alan Milburn.
His spokeswoman said: "It is great to see Victim Support reaching more people. It is more accessible to people in the community who might not otherwise have used Victim Support."
An Asda spokeswoman said: "Asda sees community involvement and issues that affect the community as very important. We are keen to continue to support such a worthwhile cause because it is for the benefit of our customers."
