MANUFACTURER Domnick Hunter has created about 70 jobs at its County Durham base.
The first phase of a £4.5m investment programme has been completed, with the creation of 35 jobs. The second phase will result in an additional 35 posts.
The investment programme, to support the increase in manufacturing capacity at its Birtley base, has been helped by a £460,000 grant from regional development agency One NorthEast.
The extra capacity will help the company keep up with worldwide demand for its micro-filtration products, which are widely used in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries, as well as in food and drink production.
Alan Clarke, chief executive at One NorthEast, said: "This has enabled them to significantly increase manufacturing capacity with a significant investment at the Birtley site, which is now providing a boost to employment opportunities in the area and strengthening their base in the North-East."
