A microphone system, loudspeakers and induction loop, has been installed in a council chamber.
The equipment aims to improve the acoustics in Richmondshire District Council Chamber and public gallery.
The system is portable and the council is planning to use it in other venues, such as parish forums.
Councillor Linda Curran, who wears a hearing aid, said: "The new loop and amplification system is absolutely brilliant and it helps everybody to hear what is going on.
"It is easier to identify who is speaking and hear what they have to say.
