TWO cyclists are taking to the saddle to tackle a coast-to-coast cycle ride from St Bees Head to Robin Hood's Bay to raise funds for the children's ward at Northallerton's Friarage Hospital.
Dave Reynolds and Anne Ley, both from near Catterick, are starting out on the mara-thon sponsored cycle ride on Saturday, July 3, and hope to complete the 190-mile ride in three days.
The route will take them across spectacular scenery, starting in the Lake District, crossing the Pennines and finally the North York Moors.
Mr Reynolds is hoping to raise more than £750 to buy recreational toys for the children to enjoy when they are in hospital.
A previous patient and parent himself, he understands how children can sometimes get bored during their hospital stay and wants to provide something to keep them occupied and entertained.
He said: "I am looking forward to getting under way. It will be a great experience and it is great to have Anne's company on the way, as she is an experienced cyclist.
"It will be a big challenge for me, but one I am determined to achieve."
Sister Rosie Mohan, from the children's ward, said: "We are grateful to Dave for his support and we wish him and Anne the best of luck and hope they enjoy the experience."
