AN MP has given a home composting scheme a boost by ordering a compost bin for his home in Stockton.
Frank Cook, MP for Stockton North, was in attendance during Environment Minister Elliot Morley's recent visit to the borough, and was so impressed with a composting scheme on display he ordered one on the spot.
Wrap (the waste and resources action programme) allocated Stockton about 6,000 compost bins for sale at a nominal price of £12. About half of them were sold in a matter of weeks.
Councillor Steve Nelson, the council's cabinet member for the environment, said: "I am delighted the scheme has taken off so well and Frank's endorsement of the scheme is a great boost for our efforts to reduce waste.
"Home composting is an important part of meeting our recycling targets."
