SHOCKED Leanne Perry went to her GP with a stomach ache - and hours later gave birth to twin boys.
The 23-year-old had none of the usual symptoms of pregnancy and was unaware she had an instant family waiting to arrive.
Ms Perry called to see her GP on Tuesday morning with what she thought was nothing more than a tummy bug.
But she was shocked when a doctor in Jarrow, South Tyneside, broke the news and she was taken to South Tyneside District Hospital in a taxi.
Within hours she was in the delivery room giving birth to twins - one weighing 7lbs 10oz and the other 7lbs 5oz.
The news also came as surprise for Leanne's partner, 34-year-old Richard Hillock.
He was enjoying a drink in the Chillingham Arms pub, in Jarrow, when Ms Perry's mother, Patricia, telephoned with the news and he dashed to the hospital to attend the births.
Ms Perry, who is also mother to two-year-old daughter Paige, is trying to come to terms with the change in her life.
Because there is no room for the twins in her home in South Shields, she is planning to move into her mother's home in Jarrow.
Ms Perry said: "My mam is going to give up work to help with the boys. It is going to be a big change."
Midwife Liz Heron said staff were also taken by surprise.
She said: "We have had women coming in before who did not know they were pregnant, but never with twins, particularly full-term twins. It's unbelievable."
The couple have named the twins Bradley and Bailey.
