Durham City made the useful total of 103 for six but still lost by nine wickets when they visited Whitburn at the picturesque village ground, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Richard Smedley top scored with 35 for City before Whitburn replied with 106 for one which included 53 not out by Peter Marshall.

Chester-le-Street had 59 runs in hand of South Hetton after totalling 110 for five which included 30 not out by Play. Responding, South Hetton managed only 51 as Sowden claimed a hat trick in three for seven. Gary Ashcroft top scored with 25 for the Cestrians.

Eppleton's batsmen faired only marginally better than South Hetton and were all out for just 52 but the total still proved sufficient against Philadelphia who replied with 45 for eight. Thomas Raine had another good night with the ball for Phili claiming five wickets for nine runs while for Eppleton, Callum Jefferson took three wickets for just 11 runs.

Gateshead Fell comfortably defeated Horden. Gray (45no) and Robert Potter (38no) led the Tynesiders to 106 for two with Paul Dixon capturing both wickets for 21 runs.

When they went into bat Horden realised 87 for four and most of the runs came from Anthony Fox and Lee Irvine, who both scored 29.

Sunderland made the formidable total of 139 for four in their local derby with Boldon who only totalled 47 for eight as Michael Fenwick claimed two wickets for eight runs. James Lake with 56 not out and Gordon Cottee added 38 to the Sunderland total.

After restricting Marsden to 60, Burnmoor won by five wickets and South Shields easily saw off the challenge from Felling when they posted the highest score of the night, 145 for four mainly as a result of the efforts of Chris Dorothy with 56 and Chris Watson with 35. Felling's reply was disappointing and the innings closed on 54 as Ryan Crozier took four wickets for as many runs and Adam Dawson claimed four wickets for five runs.
