YOUNGSTERS at a school have been taking part in mini beast hunt as part of National Insect Week.
Local wildlife expert Paul Griffin and his daughter, Helen, have been helping children at South Pelaw Infant School spot and identify bugs.
He has worked with them to build a wildlife habitat outside the school's reception to help their studies.
It includes a ladybird house, a hedgehog house and a bat box and has been designed following the children's suggestions. Mr Griffin is working mini houses for dragonflies and butterflies.
Headteacher Irene Cochrane said: "They are absolutely fascinated by the insects although some are a bit scared.
"It is great to see their little faces because they are really enthralled.
"They are growing up with a respect of the insects and a love of the environment."
