THE North's very own horse whisperer, Sarah Kreutzer, and her husband, Rob Middleton, have been busy putting the final touches to preparations for the region's first Festival of Horses.

Painting signs, mowing meadows, potting pansies and printing hundreds of programmes were just some of this week's tasks for the newly-wed couple, who have spent the last few months planning the festival at Hill Top Farm, Ilton, near Masham, this weekend.

The event, organised under the umbrella of Sarah's natural horsemanship company, Learning to Listen, is a colourful celebration of the horse, with demonstrations by Sarah and Gill Shepherd, who specialises in Western riding.

Spectators are also in for a treat as Guido Louis, recently seen at the Horse of the Year Show, performs his amazing acrobatic feats.

"We just want everyone to come along and have a fantastic time," said Sarah. "The festival will be packed with all sorts of attractions, making it a great weekend for families - there is something to please everyone."

The festival will feature a wide range of entertainment, including side-shows, miniature horses, pony rides, carriage driving, a breeds exhibition, equine trade stands, a hog roast, refreshments and a live cover band tomorrow evening.

Visitors can bring their tents or caravans to camp out tomorrow night at a cost of £5, booked in advance.

Tickets can be bought for individual days, the weekend or to see the band by phoning Learning To Listen on 01765 689368.
