Julia Orr had a pleasing run at Jarrow on Wednesday, May 19. She competed in the 800 metres mixed race organised by the BMC and finished 6th in 2.23.3, a personal best by two seconds.
On Sunday, 30 May, four Quakers competed in the Melmerby 10K. Alasdair Tatham, clearly recovered from his marathon won the race in 33:14, followed by Ian Scott, 5th overall and first over 50 male in 35:08, next home was John Edmondson, 88th, 42:56 and Tim Makin, 89th, 42:57. There were 296 competitors.
On Sunday, 6 June, five Quakers competed at Thirsk 10 mile road race in sweltering conditions but still managed to take away the 2nd male team prize. First home was Ian Scott who finished 11th in 58:47 taking the 1st over 50 place, followed by Andy Henderson, 19th, 61:31, Wayne Bramley, 28th, 62:39, Nick Millar, 30th, 63:41 and Dave Giblin, who had a disappointing run to finish 92nd in 72:07, six minutes down on his usual performance.
Josh Giblin was the only junior Quaker to compete in the Thirsk fun run. He completed the course in an amazing time of 22:40 finishing 60th out of 199 runners.
The third of the White Horse Handicaps will be held this Thursday, June 17 at the White Horse Hotel, Harrowgate Hill, Darlington. Runners are encouraged to register by 6.30 pm for the 7.15pm start. For further details see the club's website at www.quakersrunningclub.co.uk
The next Inov-8 Fell race is Monks Moor on Sunday, July 25. The race starts at 11am from the side of the road at grid reference 948264, one mile above Middleton in Teesdale and is nine miles long with 2592 feet of ascent. Register on the day.
The Quakers Running Club are hosting the 'Beamish Tram Challenge' together with Beamish Museum on Sunday, June 27. Can you beat the tram race consists of a two lap course of approximately 5K through the grounds of Beamish Museum, Chester-le-Street commencing at 9am. There will also be a 2.5K fun run. Prizes for the usual age categories depending on entries and sponsors. T-shirt to all finishers in the main run. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Beamish Development Trust.
