CHILDREN at a Redcar primary school have been learning how to wash their hands properly before being given a view of the dangers if they do not.
Pupils from Lakes Primary enjoyed a visit from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's food team as part of Food Safety Week.
The authority's food safety officer, Wayne Flowers, show-ed the youngsters the benefits of washing their hands and then used specialist ultra-violet equipment to demonstrate whether or not they had made a good job of it.
He said: "There is an element of fun about it, but we're promoting a very serious message - take the necessary hygiene precautions and help avoid food poisoning."
Lakes headteacher Chris Evans said: "Establishing good hygiene habits is an important part of our health education programme, and Wayne helped the children understand more clearly the dangers of poor hygiene habits and the need to wash hands properly."
