Gemma Snowball and Angie McCormick will set off this afternoon on a mission to boost hospice funds.
The stylists from the Elite Salon, in Cockton Hill, are taking part in The Great Escape contest organised by the Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland.
They leave Holme House Prison, in Stockton, at 5pm, on a mission to travel as far as they can over the next 24 hours without paying for transport and with only £5 in their pockets in case of emergency.
They have set a £1,000 target for sponsorship but are keeping their intended destination a secret.
Hospice fundraiser Sylvia Stoneham said: "Previously a team got to Majorca, so I've high hopes for this year. The teams are motivated and looking forward to the challenge."
