Jeff Beck's 1960s hit would have been an appropriate anthem as it was Hydro Silver Lining for the team of R Clasper & D Burdess of the Hydro GC in Newton Aycliffe who allowed nothing to cloud their day by romping home,with 46pts, in the Woodham Mens Open on Saturday.
The pair were two points clear of their nearest rivals K Clifton & A Rutherford.
Paul Leeming & Jim Clark of Stressholme/OakLeaf were third but only after a 12 hole countback to beat Alan Brack & Neil Harker of Crook GC into fourth.
Glen Dixon & Steve Johnson of Stressholme GC with 42 points and D.Clark & K. Hopton of Newcastle Utd GC filled the last two prize places.
The Boldon Book, the North East version of the Domesday Book, brought doom and gloom to the Woodham Mens Scratch Team as they went down to their first defeat of the season on Tuesday, June 15, by 5-9.
Shaun Goad with a 3&1 victory was the only Woodham winner of the night, but there were fighting halves for Lee McCavanagh, James Ivil and Mark Hodgson.
Tony Stafford and John Banks had a 'bad day at the office' and went down by 4&3 and 6&5 respectively.
Club Captain Steve Haslam, reeling from this first defeat, said: "We were a touch unlucky, we didn't get the breaks, the rub of the green went against us. This will only serve to make the team more determined."
The Ladies Section League teams have enjoyed mixed fortunes in their latest games.
They beat Wearside GC at home by 4-3, with wins for Liz Nelson, Olivia Angus, Terry Bowles & Jean Sutton.
At Dinsdale Spa they went down 4 1/2 to 2 1/2.
The Woodham scorers were Liz Nelson & Brid Keane with wins and Jean Sutton with a half.
The Junior Section Under 13 (9-hole) Stableford on Sunday 13th June 2004 was won by Greg Upton with an excellent 27 points, narrowly pipping Andrew Shaw on the same top class score, but with a better back 3. Superb golf from both players. Tom Adcock with 15pts was 3rd. Other scores: Daniel Taylor 14pts, Jordan Malcolm 12pts and Brett Upton 9pts.
The Junior Section registered their first proper league win on Wednesday 9th June, in the home game against Blackwell Grange GC.
Although Mark Borsberry, playing at number 1, went down to the final putt on the 18th hole and Peter Waters was beaten, there were convincing wins for Michael McGowan and junior captain Craig Johnston.
Another great win came in at number 5 for Michael Fearman, playing in his first league match of this season. Michael was a last minute replacement in the team for Sean Kay, who was unavailable- Well done Michael- a valuable 2 points.
David Kelly was the Teams reserve.
