A meeting of interested parties was held on Monday, June 14 and it was agreed that further promotional work be done put a League in place as soon as possible.
Several different ideas resulted from the meeting such as, flexible kick off times, playing midweek fixtures, holding a mini tournament during the season, inviting teams from other counties.
All present agreed that there is a need for an under-21s league, as too many players between the ages of 18 and 21 are being lost to the game, and The Association is to proceed with the venture.
A further meeting will be held in July/August and any one interested in obtaining information regarding the league should contact John Topping (0191) 3848653.
Secretary John Topping said: "We consider this league to be essential for the progression of Saturday football and valuable regarding playing opportunities for those who have finished at youth football level.
"We would be interested to hear from any teams interested in the venture and also any sponsors who would receive widespread publicity throughout this and other counties."
