THE fourth annual show in aid of the Equine Grass Sickness Fund has raised £1,000 towards research into the deadly disease.
The show was held at Brasside Arena, Union Hall, organised by Mandy and George Mitchell of Ferryhill, whose own horse, Tidy, died from the mysterious disease.
Mrs Mitchell said that researchers were making good progress but warned that it could be about ten years until a vaccine was widely available.
The supreme in-hand champion was Butterby Firefly, a Shetland pony owned by L Hutchings and shown by Victoria Bell. Reserve was Rhydspence Peter Pan owned by Karen Shield and Gordon Appleby, who was the handler.
The supreme ridden champion was Hasael Pencampwr, owned and ridden by Andrea Hinson. Reserve was Wooden Toffie Apple, owned and ridden by Katie Nee
