A FAMILY centre has gained approval from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) to offer full day care services.
The Lighthouse Family Centre, in School Aycliffe, caters for children aged between two and eight. From next month, the centre will be open from 8am to 6pm.
The centre underwent an Ofsted inspection last week and was granted its new status.
It has also received funding for education services for three and four-year-olds, and for its after-school club.
The centre, which has five staff, has outdoor and indoor play areas and covers the full foundation curriculum. There is also a sensory room and provision for children with special needs.
Centre manager Deborah Robson said: "We didn't expect to get this status so quickly, but we are ready for it and we are very excited.
The centre is holding an open day on Monday, July 5, from 6pm to 8pm. For details call Ms Robson on (01325) 320953.
