A PRIMARY school is celebrating after collecting its third award of the year from North West Durham MP Hilary Armstrong.
The Government Chief Whip presented a silver Artsmark award to Hunwick Primary School, near Bishop Auckland, on Friday, for its efforts to enrich the curriculum.
All 168 pupils at the school have been involved in arts projects using drama, dance, music, illustration and crafts including an African event that concluded with a presentation featuring traditional chants, hand-made African masks and the Swahili language.
Headteacher Sue Smith said she and her teaching staff work hard to enhance the pupils' experience through the arts and that the award was recognition of that effort.
Ms Armstrong said: "I know how much work and commitment this will have involved from pupils and teachers, and I'm also convinced that this activity enhances learning and enables creative involvement of parents."
