A WOMAN from Hartlepool is looking forward to a fresh future thanks to a project to help young people start a career in the health sector.

Tina Doxford, 21, from Hartlepool, is one of 19 people who found jobs in the health service through the Hospital Apprenticeship scheme, which came to an end recently.

The project was run by North Tees NHS Trust, the Learning and Skills Council and the North Hartlepool Partnership.

It was aimed at people aged 16 to 20 from the North Hartlepool Partnership area, who each underwent a three-year apprenticeship involving placements at the University Hospital of Hartlepool and study at Hartlepool College of Further Education, Hartlepool Sixth Form College and Stockton Riverside College.

Ms Doxford is one of 15 apprenticeships who have been given permanent jobs by Hartlepool NHS Trust, while the other four have jobs with other trusts.

She said: "If it wasn't for the scheme, I don't think I would have been in this job today. It was a vital stepping stone to a successful career."
