A PARTY to mark the launch of new facilities for teenagers in an east Durham village takes place next weekend.

The Teenzone project, in Ludworth, near Peterlee, was developed by environmental group Groundwork East Durham with the young people of the village, to provide an area for them to meet and play.

It has led to the installation of a youth shelter and an area for football and basketball, with connecting paths.

Project officer Jason Martin, of Groundwork, said: "It's great that the young people in Ludworth have put in so much effort to make their plans come true. This facility is much needed and will certainly be well enjoyed."

A fun day to mark the official opening takes place in Ludworth Community Centre on Saturday, June 26, from 11am to 12.30pm.

It has been organised by Ludworth Play Area Group, and funded by Barclay Bank's SiteSavers scheme. The play area group is now fundraising to improve facilities for younger children in the village.
