COMMUNITY groups are getting together this week to celebrate their successes.
A total of 58 organisations have shared £50,000 funding from Middlesbrough Prim- ary Care Trust's (PCT) easy access small grants scheme.
The scheme, which provides one-off grants of up to £1,000, aims to encourage community organisations to get involved in healthy activities. Groups that have benefited include the Teesside Samaritans, the Food for Life Breastfeeding Partnership, the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, the Take Heart Support Group and the North-East of England Chinese Association.
Some of the schemes will be showcased at an event at the Middlesbrough Teaching and Learning Centre tomorrow. Groups will speak about how they used their funding and encourage other organisations invited to the event to get involved in projects that can improve the health of their community.
Jonathan Smith, health inequalities manager at the PCT, said: "These grants have supported a number of exciting and innovative projects and healthy activities in the Middlesbrough area.
"It is encouraging to think that there are so many active groups at work in this area, all contributing to the health of local people. We look forward to supporting many more groups with this funding."
