A CHARITY supporting people with osteoporosis has been given a £1,100 donation.
Members of Soroptimist International of Thirsk and District raised the cash during the past year and decided to hand it over to the local National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) Support Group.
Specialist nurse Cath Hutton, chairwoman of the Hambleton and Richmondshire NOS branch, said: "We are really grateful for the help given by local groups such as the Soroptimists.
"Much more is now known about osteoporosis, not only about its dreadful effects on many older people, but about its prevention and palliative care.
"Donations such as this mean that we can continue to make a difference at both national and local level through support for national research, local education initiatives and at local members' meetings."
The group is holding its annual meeting on Monday, July 12, at 6.30pm at The Orchards, Brompton.
