A garden where monks grew herbs to help cure the sick is to be restored.
Durham Cathedral Educational Resource Centre is built on a former medieval monastic hospital, and the infirmary's herb garden was sited where the centre's entrance yard now stands.
Today, pupils from Shincliffe CE Primary School will help staff transform the bare yard into a herb garden once more. The project is being funded by the William Leach Charity, of Newcastle, and supported by Poplar Tree Garden Centre, Shincliffe.
