JUDITH HEALEY - Creative Product/Service award: None of the award winners can have had quite as personal a reason to celebrate their success as Judith Healey.
Her award was for producing a range of designer handbags based on ideas created by her mother, Dorrie.
Judith is managing director of Talk Marketing Ltd, based at Broadcasting House, Middlesbrough, which was set up in 1999.
Although marketing is its core business, she decided to branch out into fashion, inspired by the work and memory of her mother, who came from Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, and who died at the age of 44 when Judith was just 16.
Dorrie had always wanted to be a fashion designer but in those days the only place to train was London, and she was unable to go. But, she retained her love of the subject and some of her ideas are included in the designs which Judith has now developed into the handbag range known as Simply Dorrie.
Based around the idea of the tiny 1950s waist, they have a glass mirror on the front and bear a signature based on Dorrie's own.
Judith said: "The bags are very personal for me. We hope to develop the range further and expand into soft furnishings as well. It has been an incredible journey."
Incredible indeed, because she is also a director of Birmingham City amateur women's football club and is keen to help it develop as the sport grows nationally at a rapid pace.
She was delighted to receive the award, saying: "I was a bit taken aback. Developing the bags happened quickly, to be recognised so early in the product's life is a real accolade. I would never have won it but for my mother."
