A PRIMARY school pupil will have the thrill of seeing his art work on display at a village carnival this weekend.
Aaron Kirkbride has created a logo that will be used by St Helens Residents' Association when they revive the village carnival.
The association challenged children from St Helen Auckland Primary School to design a logo for the event, which takes place on Saturday, and it was Aaron's creation that caught the judges' eyes.
His picture of people of all ages standing side-by-side, with a caption that says Everybody Helping and Playing Together, will be transferred on to a banner by a professional artist and then displayed in the carnival parade.
It will also be put on show in the Newgate Street Shopping Centre, in nearby Bishop Auckland.
Residents have worked hard over the past few months to revive the carnival, which has fallen by the wayside in recent years.
Grants from Awards for All and Wear Valley District Council have gone towards putting on a host of entertainment and various stalls at Middlewood Green, in the village.
Councillor Margaret Douthwaite and John Wilson, from the residents' association, visited St Helen Auckland Primary School to present Aaron with his prize.
Coun Douthwaite said: "I am delighted to present Aaron with his prize. All the children who took part are winners.''
Headteacher Tom Violet said the children had enjoyed taking part in the competition.
He said: "I am proud of Aaron. I think it is a first-class design that has taken on the theme that everybody in St Helens should pull together and get involved.''
