SPEED cameras are to be used on a further four roads in Teesside in a bid to reduce the number of accidents.

Analysis conducted by Cleveland Safety Camera Partnership has highlighted a high number of accidents on the roads over the past three years.

The partnership has now been given approval by the Department of Transport to add the routes to those already subject to camera monitoring, in an effort to reduce speeds.

They are Oxford Road and Raby Road, in Hartlepool, Station Lane, in Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool, and Greenstones Road, in Redcar.

Mick Bennett, spokesman for the partnership, said: "These roads are giving cause for concern and drivers really must slow down.

"We have seen real benefits over the past four years on roads where cameras are in use and I hope to see the same results on these new roads.

"The cameras are all about preventing collisions and the unfortunate casualties which result.

"Just by sticking to the speed limit, all drivers can contribute to the reduction in casualties.

"We will commence to sign up these new roads with approved warning signs to show where the camera enforcement commences and repeater signs will also be displayed along the length of the road as a reminder for drivers they are in a camera-monitored area."
