AN asbestos training centre in Darlington, thought to be the first in the country, has been opened by the town's MP, Alan Milburn.
Built by the Trade Association for Asbestos Removal Contractors (Acad), the centre is designed to provide realistic practical training for asbestos removers.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Mr Milburn said: "Asbestos is a dangerous and deadly fibre. We must support the promotion of comprehensive training in this area.
"It is fantastic that Acad, based in Darlington, is taking the lead in the effort to promote asbestos safety nationally."
