Planet Snooker Premier League: David Craggs of Tow Law made a great recovery in his home match against Mike Dunn of Redcar, the world ranked number 54, despite having to sit and watch an impeccable break of 134 in the first frame, bringing tumultuous applause from the large, appreciative crowd.

A series of ten safety shots was broken when Craggs caught a red too thick and Dunn went to the table and took an excellent first red and followed it with a complete clearance, where he never ran an inch out of position and never needed to hit the cue ball with any power. Even though the black was tied up for the early stage of the break, Dunn managed to put in the highest break in the league to date with 134.

Dunn was first in for the second frame with 45 but Craggs replied with 44 and won a tight end game to level at 60-46. The balls did not break kindly for either player in the third but Dunn clinched the point with a late 20 break. The roles were reversed in the fourth with Craggs compiling a 37 break to take equalise with a 69-30 win.

After the interval Craggs hit an early 30 and clinched the point with a 20 to go ahead for the first time. Frame six saw Craggs at his confident best as he rolled in a 76 break to win 76-1. The confidence ran on into the final frame when Craggs got into the balls again and made a 57 break to complete a 5-2 victory.

Michael Rhodes of Durham strengthened his position at the top of the table with a 5-2 victory over the England international Gary Wilson of Wallsend at Durham Snooker Club.

Rhodes opened with a good long pot to make 24 and followed with a 31 break. Wilson's only scoring was a 24 break but Rhodes laid a very tight, successful snooker to clinch the first point. An uncharacteristic loose safety shot from Rhodes gave Wilson a great chance in the balls but he broke down on 13 with Rhodes steadily building a lead, which gave him the second frame at 73-40.

In frame three Rhodes moved into an early twenty points lead but Wilson responded with a 39 break only to see Rhodes close with a 30. However Wilson took his first point when potted the pink and black to win 53-50. Rhodes opened frame four with a 30 break and, just when Wilson looked likely to get back into the frame, he unluckily went in-off. With the aid of a fluked blue Rhodes added a 26 break to win 67-18 and go into the break with a 3-1 advantage.

Wilson opened the second half with a 49 break but Rhodes replied with 24 and, with the help of a free ball he closed the gap to one point. Wilson lost the safety battle on the brown and Rhodes cleared to win 68-49. Frame six brought the highlight of the match as Rhodes compiled an excellent 119 break, only missing out on a possible 137 when he unluckily went in-off the blue. Wilson fought back to take his second point of the evening when he took the final frame at 62-32.

Andy Craig of Stanley visited Newcastle Fairholme Social Club to play the English Amateur champion, David Lilley and made an excellent start when he knocked in a 50 break to go ahead. The lead was extended to 3-0 when Craig won the second at 58-27 and then put in a 39 break to win the third at 70-35. Lilley managed to settle and, without managing to compile a sizeable break, took the fourth at 67-17 to trail 3-1 at the interval.

The fifth frame set a new league record, albeit not one either player will be keen to admit, when the score between the two players came to a great total of 49 points with Lilley winning 43-6. He went on to square the match, winning the scrappy sixth frame by 61-49. A solid, consistent performance by Craig saw him take the decider at 65-30 and so move off the foot of the table.

The match between Michael Rudd, who is in Spain on holiday, and John McCallum was postponed.
