Durham Fell Runners, Steve Lumb and Stuart Ferguson travelled to Strathcarron in north west Scotland and competed in the two day Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon.
The two runners were hampered by strong winds, rain and even snow on Saturday and heavy drizzle combined with low cloud on Sunday. They completed the very demanding Elite course in 15 hours and 36 minutes over the two days, running more than 60km with 4000m of ascent; finishing in eighth place.
The club holds weekly training sessions in Hamsterly Forest on Thursday evenings, meeting between 6.45pm and 7pm at the visitor centre. These sessions are developed in conjunction with the only fell running coach in the North-East. The sessions are suitable for all abilities.
