Federation Special Durham Senior League, Under-15: Jonathan Shurben and Jarvis Play were both in outstanding form for Chester-le-Street against Sunderland at Ropery Lane, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Batting first, the Cestrians made the formidable total of 181 without loss from just 20 overs as Sherben struck a magnificent unbeaten 111 which included four sixes and 13 boundaries. Play ended undefeated on 57 with five fours. Replying Sunderland managed only 67 for six as Darren Redfearn claimed three wickets for 13 runs in four overs.

Eppleton also enjoyed an easy victory in their local derby at home to South Hetton. The target of 85 soon evaporated as Scott Borthwick finished with 54 not out and Liam Mallaburn ended undefeated on 31.

Batting first, South Hetton realised 84 for three which included 323 not out by Smith and 21 from Gary Ashcroft.

Mallaburn also bowled well for Eppleton claiming two of the three wickets to fall for only 19 runs.

Boldon defeated Whitburn by seven wickets in another derby match. Anthony Brown, with three for 20, played a leading part in restricting Whitburn to 65 before Boldon won losing just two wickets. Brian McAnaney top scored with 21 for Boldon.

Thomas Raine took three wickets for just six runs and Greg Dixon had two for nine when Philadelphia pegged Gateshead Fell to 52 for seven after totalling 82 for eight.

In a game dominated by bowlers, Fell's Joe Errington took three for 13, Graeme Bowman two for 23 and Richard Porter two for 14.

Under-18s

Durham City had 29 runs to spare visiting Burnmoor where they totalled 119 for the loss of just one wicket, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Ellis was in fine form and he finished undefeated on 66 while Rea was also not out with 33 runs to his credit.

Responding, Burnmoor made only 90 for six for which Scott Robinson top scored with 34. Dias top performed with the ball for City taking two wickets for 19 runs.

Kyle Bradbury shone with the bat leading South Hetton to victory over Philadelphia. He scored 65 and Gary Burlington 23 as South Hetton totalled 140 for four before restricting Philadelphia to 71 for five which included 24 not out by Brian Telfer. David Conway, with three for 19 bowled a good end for South Hetton.

Seaham Harbour overtook the Felling total of 95 for seven of which Stephen Barnes scored 31, with eight wickets in hand. Young took three of the seven wickets to fall for 21 runs and Cook contributed an unbeaten 22 to Seaham Harbour's winning reply of 98 for two.

Michael Dunn, with an unbeaten 28, led the South Shields reply against Gateshead Fell. Although Smith took two for 15, Shields reached the target of 100 losing just three wickets.

Batting first, Gateshead Fell were indebted to Andrew Porter (56) as they realised 99 for seven. Kris McShane captured three wickets or 21 runs and Greg Fiddell three for 18 in the Shields bowling line up.

Anthony Anderson (35no) and Scott Borthwick made an unbeaten 33. Both hit form as Eppleton comfortably defeated Boldon.

In the local derby at Ashbrooke, Whitburn overtook the Sunderland total of 73 with seven wickets remaining. Paul Marshall claimed three wickets without conceding a run in four overs for Whitburn.

Durham Coast League

Under-15s

Blackhall had the better of Easington in the local derby. The home side managed only 62 before Blackhall won with just one wicket when Marsh finished undefeated with 31 to his credit, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Castle Eden went down by 13 runs at Seaham Park who posted 79 for six including a top scoring 18 by Wallace. Bailey was the most successful bowler in the Castle Eden attack ending with figures of two for 14 and when they responded, the visitors ended with 66 for five from their 20 overs.

Milkin (28) and Grufferty (18no) scored most of the runs for Castle Eden while in the Seaham Park attack Darren Sutherland and Chris Varley had identical figures of two for 11.

Hylton romped to a ten wickets victory at Bill Quay where their target was 107. Barnett took the man of the match honours ending undefeated on 53 and partnering Coomber (36no) in an unbroken first wicket partnership which produced 107 runs.

When Bill Quay batted first and were all out for 106, Barnett took four wickets for just seven runs in four overs and Stokoe had four for 22 from the 3.4 overs he delivered. Jordan Gilmore was in good form with the bat for Bill Quay scoring 30.

Dawdon lost by 26 runs at Boldon CA when they totalled only 87 which included 21 by Gustard with three boundaries. Kris Frater returned two for 20, Jane Riddle two for two while Jamie Coates was the star of the Boldon attack with four for four from the 14 balls he delivered.

Batting first Boldon CA reached 113 for three mainly as a result of the efforts of Sam Wraith whose 43 included one six and three boundaries. Kris Frater added 23 and for Dawdon, Duffy took two of the three wickets to fall for 12 runs in two overs.

Under-18s

Wayne Birks and Chris Tudball led Castle Eden to an emphatic victory over Seaham Park, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Faced with a target of 103, the two youngsters were still together when the winning run was struck with Castle Eden on 106 without loss. Birk ended unbeaten on 54 and Tudball contributed 34.

Anthony Ord (28) and Lee Chapman with an unbeaten 28 were both in good form with the bat for Seaham Park whose innings ended with 102 for two on the board. Both wickets were claimed by Hart for just seven runs.

Jamie Greenwood was man of the match in Dawdon's nine wickets victory at home to Hylton. He took five wickets for just five runs in four overs and although Christopher Allen scored 36 with one six and three fours Hylton could only make 86 for eight.

Greenwood then dominated Dawson's reply hitting a couple of sixes and seven boundaries out of an unbeaten 61 made from a total of 92 for one.

Ryhope's batsmen were also in good form at Boldon CA where they won by six wickets. Needing 127 runs, Ryhope were indebted to Paul Howe for his contribution of 59 and to Greg Arundal (26). Sam Wraith took two of the four wickets to go down for just 18 runs.

Batting first, Boldon CA made a respectable 126 for three which included 42 by Karl Bellerby, 35 from Kevin Straugheir and an unbeaten 28 by Sean Erskine. Dale Hutchinson captured all three Boldon wickets to fall for 20 runs.

Peterlee overtook the Bill Quay total of 113 for four losing just three wickets. Their man of the match was Paul Griffiths with 82 and earlier he took two wickets for 20 runs. Taylor (26no) and Little with 24 were top scorers for Bill Quay for whom South took two of the three Peterlee wickets for 24 runs.

After realising 115 for two, Houghton pegged Murton to 96 for nine. Tim Bowman was in excellent form scoring 52 while Carl White added 26 and Gavin King 24 for Houghton.

Karl Howe (23) and James Watson with 21 led Murton's reply but when Matthew Lovitt returned figures of three for 16 Paul Karan two for six Houghton finished winners by a margin of 19 runs.
