George Mann Cup: Wolsingham Club almost guaranteed themselves a place in the knockout stages after they won a very tight match against Wolsingham All Stars.
The Club batted first and reached 124 for six when their 20 overs ran out. Percival hit 28, White 26 and Peveller 25. The All Stars looked to be keeping up the run rate when they had Walker with 27, Michael Watson 21 and Sanderson 19 until Anderson returned for his second bowling spell and took the vital wickets of Mark Watson and Everitt. The run rate dropped and the All Stars had one wicket left when their innings closed with the overs completed with a score on 111.
Wolsingham Teachers faced a massive 207 from Wolsingham Mill Race, the cup holders. Only opener Coxon and last man in, Porter for the Mill Race failed to get into the twenties as the Mill Race made the highest score for many years in the competition. In contrast the Teachers only had two players in double figures when Bell hit 28 and Thompson 14 with the innings completed on 72 in seventeen overs.
Foster's Cleveland League
Oone game went ahead and it too suffered at the hands of the weather when it had to be abandoned.
Ormesby Hall managed to stage their home fixture with Paragonians and totalled 204 for three, but with Paragonians on 60 for five, the weather intervened.
Thorpe and Young both made 29, but the biggest contributors to the Ormesby Hall total were Qyyum with 86 and Trotter, who finished unbeaten on 51.
Paragonians found run making difficult but 27 by Hensell took the score to 60 as Dave McCabe captured four of the wickets for just 15 runs in eight overs.
In division two three games were played. Normanby Parklands totalled only 97, but made New Marske work hard for a one wicket success. Indeed, it looked as if Parklands' low total would be sufficient until Taggart, who went in at number ten, hit an unbeaten 31 in the New Marske reply. Fox was in splendid form with the ball for Parklands taking six wickets for 27 runs and Frewin returned three for 39.
Batting first Parklands found run making difficult, but 30 by Mead and 25 from Asif eventually enabled them to total 97 even though Taggart was in good form with the ball for New Marske returning five for 36. Hailstone, with two for 21 and Alderson whose two wickets cost 34 runs, assisted Taggart in the attack.
Hartlepool RFC had 53 runs to spare over Ormesby Hall. Batting first Hartlepool ended with 123 on the board which included 30 by Copeland and 33 from L Prosser. Knight bowled well for Ormesby Hall claiming five wickets for 46 runs and Roberts took four wickets at a cost of 53 runs.
Replying Ormeby Hall managed only 70 for nine as L Prosser took four wickets for eight runs and Wallis ended with three for 20.
Normanby Parklands were 120 all out and lost by five wickets to Cowpen Bewley.
Rasheed top scored with 52 for Parklands while for Cowpen Bewley Barlow claimed four wickets for 15 runs, Atkinson two for 20 and Quinn two for 33.
In reply Cowpen Bewley conceded the wickets of their first three batsmen for a combined total of just seven runs before Atkinson (62) and Barlow (34) led their side to victory.
There was no play in the game between Dormanstown and Brotton and on Sunday Skelton Castle staged their delayed fixture with Loftus winning a high scoring game by four wickets. Batting first Loftus ended with 183 for seven on the board which included 53 by Loughlin.
John Allen contributed 51, Mark Blewert 44 not out and Chris Twiby an unbeaten 28 to Skelton Castle's match winning reply of 184 for six.
Wear Valley Sunday League
West Auckland Blacksmith's Arms had some nail-biting moments before they edged through to beat the visiting ISA by three runs. The home side batted first and made 124 in their twetnty overs with Colin hendreson making 27 and Carl McGregor and Mike Smith 25 each, whilst Arthur Nunn took two for 14. ISA went after the runs in similar fashion and were always within striking distance of their target. However, despite Arthur Nunn, Andy Sewell and Dave Bulliman all making 25 they fell just short at 121. Chris Patterson took two for 8 to be the best home bowler.
Shildon Timothy Hackworth held their top spot in the table with a big home win over Ferryhill Cricketers Arms. The home side batted first and reached 146 with Ian Wickins on 29 and Peter Wild 28 when their allotted overs were completed. The Cricketers only managed to accumulate 82 with Michael Simmons scoring 25 and Dave Copperlie 24, whilst Ian Longstaff took three for 5.
